PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable writing instrument which enables easy and prompt switching between a seal state and a use state with a simple structure while preventing a cap from being removed from a writing instrument body.SOLUTION: A writing instrument includes: a barrel 3; a slider 11 which linearly moves in the barrel 3; a first writing material 13 which is stored in the slider 11 and is fixed to the slider 11 so that a front end part protrudes forward from the slider 11; a cap 15 which is connected with the slider 11 so as to oscillate and is formed so as to seal the front end part of the first writing material 13 or release the seal on the front end part; and a cam mechanism which converts linear movement of the slider 11 into oscillatory movement of the cap 15.
