A comparator, comprising: an input-stage circuit configured to set, in a first operating state, two voltage signals in a first voltage state, and to change, in a second operating state, the two voltage signals from the first voltage state to a second voltage state at respective different speeds whose difference is responsive to a difference between voltage levels of two input signals; a latch-stage circuit that includes two field effect transistors and two inverters, the two field effect transistors receiving the two voltage signals at respective control nodes thereof and disposed between two respective output nodes and a node of a predetermined potential, the two inverters being cross-coupled between the two output nodes, and the two inverters being placed in an inactive state in the first operating state and placed in an active state in the second operating state; and a control circuit configured to control current supply capacities in two paths through which drive voltages are applied to the two inverters separately from each other, wherein the control circuit is configured to cause the current supply capacities in the two paths to be different from each other during at least part of a period of the second operating state.
