The lintel 1 comprises two lateral supports 3,4 and a raised portion 2, forming an open profile insulation cavity 8; there is a thermal break plate 9 spanning the gap between the two supports, along at least part of the length, which holds insulation in position. Preferably the plate couples the two supports and prevents lateral movement of the insulation, and strengthens the lintel; it may have a width less than the gap; there may be holes 26 which reduce heat transfer across the plate and act as a key for rendering. Tabs or tongues 17 may be provided on the edges of the plate to fasten the plate to the lintel, and also restrict the movement of insulation by projecting at an angle from the plate into the insulation material, leaving an air gap 11 at the edge of the plate; they may be spaced apart and contact the inner surface of the cavity or the underside of the supports, and be staggered relative to those on the opposite edge. |
