PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which prevents or suppresses a gap between a temperature detection element and a heating roller from changing due to heat generated by the heating roller and is capable of accurately detecting a peripheral surface temperature of the heating roller and appropriately controlling the peripheral surface temperature, and to provide an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A fixing device 10 comprises: a heating roller 11 and a pressure roller 12 for fixing a toner image formed on a sheet by heating the sheet while holding it therebetween; an upper housing 21 for holding the heating roller 11, the upper housing 21 having a facing part 29 facing a peripheral surface of the heating roller 11; a support plate 23 which is composed of a material having a higher heat resistance than the upper housing 21, is disposed between the facing part 29 of the upper housing 21 and the peripheral surface of the heating roller 11 so as to face the peripheral surface of the heating roller 11, and is longer in the axial direction of the heating roller 11; and a thermistor 24 or the like which is installed on the support plate 23 and detects the temperature of the heating roller 11. |
