The invention relates to (among other things) oligomer-dantrolene conjugates and related compounds. A conjugate of the invention, when administered by any of a number of administration routes, exhibits advantages over previously administered compounds.

1. A compound having the following structurewherein:
R2 is a member of the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyethyl, alkyl, and 4-pyridylethyl; (a) is either zero or one; (b) is either zero or one; R3, when present, is selected from the group consisted of nitro, cyano, amino, chloro, bromo, acetyl, carboxy, methyl and trifluoromethyl; R4, when present, is selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano, amino, chloro, bromo, acetyl, carboxy, methyl and trifluoromethyl; and POLY is a poly(ethylene oxide) having a molecular weight of below about 1500 Daltons.
