PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patterned retardation film produced by continuous treatment on a long transparent film material supplied by use of rolls, which is configured to decrease crosstalk in an image display device caused by uneven elongation and contract of the transparent film material and to efficiently dispose the pattern retardation film.SOLUTION: A production method of a patterned retardation film is provided, in which a long transparent film material 2 is successively treated to form a patterned retardation film 1, and the method includes: a retardation layer forming step of forming a retardation layer, in which a first region to impart a retardation to transmitted light and a second region to impart a retardation different from that of the first region to the transmitted light are successively and alternately disposed, on the long transparent film material 2; and a cutting step SP7 of cutting a laminate of the retardation layer and the long transparent film material to form the patterned retardation film 1. The cutting step SP7 is carried out in such a way that an extending direction of a short side of the patterned retardation film 1 is aligned to the longitudinal direction of the transparent film material 2. |
