<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high sludge reduction effect and an improved quality of treated water even when the capacity of a biological treatment tank is not sufficient. <P>SOLUTION: A wastewater treatment apparatus comprises the biological treatment tank 1 for biologically treating organic wastewater, a solid-liquid separation tank 2 for carrying out the solid-liquid separation of the biologically treated liquid, an ultrasonic treatment device 10 for crushing sludge cells obtained by the solid-liquid separation, and a membrane separation tank 11 containing a separation membrane, disposed at the subsequent stage of the solid-liquid separation tank 2.
