PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump system capable of stably operating an engine with high efficiency by properly coping with heat load of a compression-type heat pump circuit, while miniaturizing and energy saving. SOLUTION: In this heat pump system comprising the engine 1, and the compression type heat pump circuit 10 having a compressor 11 applying shaft output of the engine 1 as its driving source, the engine 1 is a multicylinder engine having a plurality of cylinders, and the number of stopped cylinders among the plurality of cylinders 1a, 1b is variable. The engine comprises a control means 40 controlling the stopped cylinder by controlling the number of stopped cylinders on the basis of the heat load in a configuration that the lower the heat load is, the more the number of stopped cylinders is increased.
