PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handrail belt fracture detecting device capable of easily detecting fracture of the handrail belt or the like, facilitating installation work, maintenance and inspection, and attaining a lower cost. SOLUTION: The handrail belt fracture detecting device 11 is provided in association with a handrail belt driving device 3 which has one or more pairs of rollers 4, 5 for pinchingly pressing and driving the handrail belt 1 circularly moved in an endless manner. The handrail belt fracture detecting device 11 comprises a detection piece 12, which is provided on a member 8a on an urging side for urging the rollers 5 of the handrail belt driving device 3 toward the handrail belt, and a detector 13 which has an operation piece 13a for connection to the detection piece and closes a contact along with displacement of the detection piece toward the handrail belt.
