Catalyst for the production of alcohols

Catalyst comprising 20-80 wt.% of cupric oxide, 10-80 wt.% of zinc oxide and 1-50 wt.% of aluminum oxide in non-reduced condition and exhibiting a pore size distribution, in which 5-15% of the total pore volume lies in the pore diameter range of less than 150 Å and 80-95% lies in the pore diameter range of greater than 250 Å , is new. An independent claim is included for the preparation of the catalyst.
