PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope with good operability which performs insertion and removal operation of an element into and from a light axis when changing an observation method by as small number of times as possible. SOLUTION: A condenser lens 5A includes a polarizer for RC observation 22 that is provided on the same light axis as an RC slit 21 and is insertable into and removable from the illumination light axis L1 integrally with an RC slit 21, and a polarizer for DIC observation 23 that is provided in the illumination light axis L1 independently of insertion and removal of the RC slit 21 into and from the illumination light axis L1. When the observation method is switched, switching of insertion and removal of the polarizer for RC observation 22 need not be performed separately from the switching of insertion and removal of the RC slit 21, and the number of times of the insertion and removal operation can be reduced.
