Process for chemical treatment of substrates comprising clearwood lumber material, comprises: (a) heat treatment of the substrate comprising wood; (b) introducing a soluble dye in polymerizable/crosslinkable hydrophobic organic compound to obtain homogeneous mixture of the desired color; (c) contacting the substrate comprising wood with polymerizable/crosslinkable hydrophobic organic compound colored in step (b), by which the organic compound penetrates the open porosity of the wood; and (d) polymerizing/crosslinking and hardening the colored hydrophobic organic compound within the wood. Process for chemical treatment of substrates comprising clearwood lumber material having the same look and properties as precious exotic wood, comprises: (a) heat treatment of the substrate comprising wood to initiate thermotransformation reactions within the wood, which allows its partial coloration in its volume; (b) introducing a soluble dye in at least one polymerizable/crosslinkable hydrophobic organic compound to obtain a homogeneous mixture of the desired color; (c) contacting the substrate comprising wood with at least one polymerizable/crosslinkable hydrophobic organic compound colored in step (b), by which the organic compound penetrates the open porosity of the wood; and (d) polymerizing/crosslinking and hardening the colored hydrophobic organic compound within the wood.
