PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monofunctional (meth)acrylate useful as a diluent or the like of a thermally curable or photo-curable (meth)acrylate-based resin. SOLUTION: The monofunctional (meth)acrylate is obtained by reacting a compound represented by the formula (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a cyano group, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, R<SP>3</SP>is an alkylene group, R<SP>4</SP>is a direct bond, an alkylidene group or an alkylene group, R<SP>5</SP>is a substituent, k is an integer of 0-4, m is an integer not less than 0 and n is 0 or 1) with (meth)acrylic acid or a derivative thereof (such as a (meth)acrylic acid halide and (meth)acrylic acid anhydride).
