A method and an apparatus for controlling a channel of an image display device are provided to configure a channel map after an automatic channel search and realize an auto hidden function about a channel not watched during a predetermined period of time in the configured channel map. If an auto channel search command is inputted by a user, a controller controls that a channel map is stored after auto channel search(S104). If a channel editing command is inputted by the user, the controller displays the channel map after differentially configuring the channel map according to a watching frequency(S106). If an auto hidden on command is inputted by the user, the controller controls that only a channel having a high watching frequency is displayed(S108). If the auto hidden on command is not inputted by the user, the controller determines whether a channel editing completion command is inputted(S110). If the channel editing completion command is inputted by the user, the controller controls to finish editing a channel. |
