The projector (1) is provided with: light source devices (31A, 31B); a light modulation device (341) that modulates light that is emitted from the light source devices (31A, 31B); a projecting optical device (35) that projects the light that is modulated by the light modulation device; a determination unit (52) that determines whether a light source device that is not appropriate for the installation orientation of the projector (1) is mounted; and a notification unit (53) that reports information corresponding to the determination result when it is determined by the determination unit (52) that a light source device that is not appropriate for the installation orientation is mounted.
