An aeronautical or marine propulsor 10 has a gas turbine core engine, a reduction gearbox 16 driven by the core engine and one or more propulsive fans or propellers 12 coaxial with the core engine and driven by the gearbox 16, the one or more fans or propellers 12 being axially located between the gearbox 16 and the core engine. The gearbox 16 may be a star typre gearbox with a sun gear driving star gears, which in turn drive an annulus gear for driving the one or more fans or propellers 12. Alternatively gearbox 16 may be an epicyclic gearbox. Gearbox 16 may be double-helical. The gearbox 16 and fans 12 may be located forward of the core engine. A tube member 19 may extend through a central bore in the one or more fans or propellers 12 and connect the gearbox 16 to the casing of the core engine in order for react torque from the gearbox 16 to the casing. The gearbox 16 may be driven by a drive shaft 17 extending through tube 19. Tube 19 may support one or more bearings 20, 21 for the fans 12. An oil scavenge pump 22 may be located adjacent to the gearbox 16. The propulsor may be an aeronautical turbofan engine or a marine propulsor with an azimuthing propeller. |
