Provided is a biometric recognition method capable of estimating information on biometric joints with the small number of feature points by using depth information. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the biometric recognition method comprises the following steps: (A) generating a depth image of an object by using a 3D sensor, and generating a histogram indicating the distribution of a depth value; (B) separating the background through the depth image; (C) estimating a head from the depth image from which the background is separated, and designating a living body as an interest area; (D) extracting the biometric joints from the interest area; (E) generating a geodesic distance image with respect to a central point of the interest area; (F) generating a plurality of random points in the geodesic distance image; and (G) inputting the random points into a support vector machine (SVM) and classifying a part of the biometric joints.
