PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for suppressing weight, complexity or cost increased in circumstances in which: when composite structural members are joined together, gaps or voids may be present along bond lines between the members and need to be filled to increase the strength of the bond; and, for example in the aircraft industry, adequate strength with an adhesive filler used at the radius bond line between a stringer and a skin requires, e.g., increase in the amount of a stiffener, causing the increase in weight, complexity, or cost.SOLUTION: Layers of composite material are laid down on a forming tool. An individual bend is formed in each of the layers to form the composite filler comprising bent layers on the forming tool. The composite filler comprising the bent layers is placed into a gap formed by at least one composite structure. |
