[Class 136 (ii)] A coaster brake comprises an actuating member 29, mounted on a screw shaft 31 formed on a driving member 6 and adapted upon forward rotation to co-operate with a clutch surface 43 provided on the hub 11, a non-rotatable anchor member 5, a pair of expansion cones 23, 26 both slidably but non-rotatably mounted in the anchor member 5 and adapted to expand a brake sleeve 13 for bringing it into frictional contact with the hub when the actuating member is rotated backwards and a torque transfer member 24 which is secured to the anchor member at 21 and has a portion 25 projecting into a slot formed in the brake sleeve 13. A detent sleeve 32 is slidably mounted on the hub axle 1 between the anchor member 5 and the screw shaft 31 and is prevented from rotation by means of lugs 38 which engage in slots 39 formed in the end of the anchor member 5. A spring 33 is mounted on the sleeve 32 and bears against a detent disc 35 splined upon the sleeve and having a conical peripheral surface 36 frictionally engaging a corresponding surface 37 in the interior of the control nut 29. The friction sleeve 13 also has an internal groove 15 diametrically opposite to the slot 14 to increase the flexibility. |
