A method and an apparatus for managing a user account are disclosed. The method for managing the user account according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: setting a plurality of authority accounts which define usage authorities for functions of a device; mapping at least one of the authority accounts with an account for user authentication of the device based on the user input; and applying the user authentication method and information about user authority based on the mapped result to execution of applications installed in the device in a run-time state of the operating system of the device.
