<p>A method of providing authenticated operation of a first hand-holdable data processing device, the method comprising the steps of: (i) controlling the first device to generate a request for an authentication message, (ii) sending said request to a second hand- holdable data processing device, (iii) generating, at said second device, a coded authentication message in reply to said received request, (iv) communicating the coded authentication message to said first device, (v) receiving said coded authentication message at said first device; (vi) decoding said received authentication message, and (vii) inspecting said decoded authentication message to determine whether authenticated operation of said first device should be provided.. Computer software and a system are also disclosed.</p> |
