The method involves determining a protocol associated with a communication signal for access points (210, 212, 214, 216, 218, 220). A processor compatible with the determined protocol is allocated and the communication signal is processed by the allocated processor. The processor is selected from a pool of available processors for the processing of the communication signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a machine-readable storage comprising a computer program having code section for providing communication in a multi-band multi-protocol hybrid wired/wireless network (b) a system for providing communication in a multi-band multi-protocol hybrid wired/wireless network.
