PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus and a magnetic resonance imaging method capable of enhancing signal strength in the imaging using an MT effect and a CEST effect.SOLUTION: A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes a sequence control part and an image generation part. The sequence control part performs an imaging sequence for an imaging region after applying an RF (radio frequency) pulse of a first frequency that causes an MT (magnetization transfer) effect, and an RF pulse of a second frequency that causes an MT effect, but is different from the first frequency one or more times respectively. The image generation part generates an image on the basis of the data collected in the imaging sequence.
