摘要 The present invention provides an image capture device and focus control method whereby it is possible to achieve both improved phase difference auto-focus (AF) precision and reduced probability of missing a photo opportunity. This digital camera is provided with: a focus control unit (19, 11, 8) which computes a defocus degree using detection signals of pixels for phase difference detection (52) and drives a focusing lens according to the defocus degree; and a motion detection unit (18) which detects whether there is motion in a captured photographic subject image. The focus control unit computes the defocus degree according to an auto-focus instruction. If the defocus degree exceeds a threshold, the focus control unit will carry out phase difference AF again after driving the focus lens according to the defocus degree and complete the auto-focus. If the defocus degree is less than or equal to the threshold, the focus control unit will carry out phase difference AF only once and complete the auto-focus. If there is motion in the photographic subject image, the focus control unit raises the threshold beyond what the threshold would be if there were no motion.
