A coated cutting tool according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a base material and a coating layer formed on the surface of the base material. In a cross section of the α-type aluminum oxide layer substantially parallel to the surface of the base material, when the angle formed between a normal to the cross section and a normal to the (222) face of particles in the α-type aluminum oxide layer is defined as the orientation difference, the area of the particles in the α-type aluminum oxide layer having an orientation difference of 0-90° is defined as 100% of the cross section by area, and the area of the particles in the α-type aluminum oxide layer having an orientation difference of 0-90° is divided into sections at a pitch of 10°, then the total area Sa of the particles in the α-type aluminum oxide layer having an orientation difference of 20° or more to less than 30° is the maximum within the total of the areas of the nine sections at a pitch of 10°. |
