<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase of an amount of emission of harmful substances in a time period immediately after cold start of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a connection passage 5 connected to an upstream side of a catalyst 41 in an exhaust passage 4 and a downstream side of a throttle valve 32 in an intake passage, and a storage tank 6 disposed on the connection passage and sucking and storing an exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust passage while enlarging a volume by utilizing an intake negative pressure generated at the downstream of the throttle valve in the intake passage 3. At least a part of the exhaust gas generated in a time period when the catalyst is not activated, immediately after cold start of the internal combustion engine, is stored in the storage tank to reduce an amount of the exhaust gas, that is, harmful substances flowing into the inactive catalyst. The exhaust gas stored in the storage tank is released to the exhaust passage 4 from the storage tank after a temperature of the catalyst is sufficiently raised and the catalyst is activated, so that it is treated by the catalyst.</p> |
