Certain aspects of the methods disclosed herein relate to treating neuroinflammation, preventing neuroinflammation, or reducing neuroinflammation, and combinations of the foregoing in a subject by administration of 2-fucosyl-lactose. Other aspects of the methods disclosed herein relate to treating cognitive impairment, preventing cognitive impairment, or reducing cognitive impairment, and combinations of the foregoing in a subject by administration of 2-fucosyl-lactose.
