<p>A lower cost water heater suitable for domestic and commercial application. The heater comprises an internal pressure tank (34) with a water inlet and water outlet and an insulating outer enclosing layer (22, 24, 26, 28). The outer layer portions are engaged together and locked over the tank, preferably using a tongue and groove type arrangement. The outer layer comprises a series of formed waterproof and insulating polymer sections. The portions (22, 24, 26, 28) of the outer layer may include a flattened region (48, 50) to reduce the overall width of the assembly for installation into tighter spaces. The tank comprises a long life stainless steel tank comprising few parts. The outer layer is formed of a polymer material that does not lose its insulating properties and is tough enough to not require a further external coating. The outer layer may be formed from recyclable material. The water heater uses simple designs and few parts to allow ease of manufacture, allow ease of replacement of parts and reduce the overall weight.</p> |
