A method for treating a disease resulting from integrated stress response-induced apoptosis in a population of cells, the method comprising the step of administering to a patient in need of relief a therapeutically effective amount of an inhibitor of eIF2α dephosphorylation, where the therapeutically effective amount is capable of decreasing the apoptosis;
wherein the apoptosis is endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis; and, wherein the disease is a bone disease, injury, or defect, or a combination thereof.
