first and second read transducers arranged on a media-facing surface and offset along a down-track direction and a cross-track direction from one another along the media-facing surface, the read transducers detecting magnetic fields of a recording medium; and first and second heaters disposed proximate the respective first and second read transducers, the first and second heaters offset from one another in the down-track direction and the cross-track direction, the first and second heaters independently controlling respective first and second protrusions of the first and second read transducers from the media-facing surface while the first and second readers are reading separate tracks of the recording medium.
