PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool (1) for friction stir joining, which is capable of promoting temperature rise of material to be joined at the time of joining to perform friction stir joining in a short time, where a coating layer (3) has excellent thermal insulating properties, and excellent resistance to oxidation and resistance to wear.SOLUTION: The tool (1) for friction stir joining includes a base material (2), and a coating layer (3) formed on the base material (2), where the coating layer (3) consists of one or more layers, and at least one layer thereof has a heat permeability of 5,000 J/smK or less. |
