This critical system comprises a control pathway (COM) comprising an actuation unit (120) having a nonlinear behaviour, which is able to be controlled by application of an input quantity u and whose state is characterized by an output quantity y. The behaviour of the actuation unit (120) being described by a flat nonlinear model, the system comprises an estimation unit having: - a module (134) for linearization by dynamic inversion able, on the basis of the measured output quantity, to calculate the input quantity of the equivalent linear model;- a module (136) for estimating a flat output quantity (I) on the basis of the input quantity of the equivalent linear model; and - a module (138) for calculating a residual on the basis of the estimated flat output quantity (I) and of a measured flat output quantity z, corresponding to the measured output quantity.
