<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing member configured to control load deformation of a cross section (a cross-sectional shape deformed by a load), according to an applied load quantity or a cross-sectional shape condition of an extruded hollow section, by easily and reliably collapsing inward two plate-like webs on the plate-like flange both ends in crushing. <P>SOLUTION: This energy absorbing member includes an aluminum alloy extruded hollow section 1 of a rectangular cross-sectional shape constituted of the plate-like webs 4, 5 and 6 for connecting plate-like flanges 2 and 3 and having overhang flanges 7, 8, 9 and 10. The plate-like webs have corner parts 11-16 successively increasing in plate thickness. Inside corner parts 11i-16i and outside corner parts 11o-16o in the corner parts are formed in an asymmetric shape different in amount of increase in plate thickness.
