A radio communications network 88 is disclosed within which a mobile device 90, 92 operates with access to a small data transmission (SDT) feature. The network comprises a first network device 94 arranged to receive SDT signalling 100 initiated by the mobile radio communications device 90, 92, a second network device 96 arranged to receive signalling from the first network device 94 as part of an establishment procedure 102 for attempted SDT communications within the network 88. The first network device 94 determines if SDT should be prevented for the mobile device 90, 92 preferably in response to its signalling exchange 102 with the said second network device 96, and if so, it initiates a SDT rejection message 104 for use in the control of the mobile device 90, 92. The rejection message may indicate the cause of the rejection and/or a length of time for which the mobile device cannot access the SDT feature. The first network device may comprise an SGSN/MME, and the second network device may be a server such as a HSS. Alternatively, the first network device may comprise a MTC/IWF device, the second network device comprising a Service Capability Server/Application server. A related method of network operation and network terminal/node devices are also disclosed. |
