PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic optical element having excellent adhesiveness of a protective film on a birefringent film.SOLUTION: The inorganic optical element includes a birefringent film 12 comprising a columnar structure, and a protective film 13 formed on the birefringent film 12. In the birefringent film 13, a component of the protective film 13 intrudes into gaps in the columnar structure. The adhesiveness between the birefringent film 12 and the protective film 13 can be improved, since the protective film component intrudes into the gaps in the columnar structure of the birefringent film 12 and forms a bond between the birefringent film 12 and the protective film component. |
