A handover method, a base station, and a communications system. The method comprises: a base station serving a user equipment sending a handover request to a target base station, the handover request comprising position information of the user equipment. In this way, after receiving the handover request, the target base station can select a suitable target cell according to the position information of the user equipment and a process of cell splitting or cell merging of the target base station, and feeds back the target cell and configuration information to the base station. In this way, the base station can perform a corresponding handover configuration according to the information fed back by the target base station, thereby avoiding the occurrence of a handover failure.
