<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition that satisfies at least one of demands for characteristics such as high maximum temperature, low minimum temperature, small viscosity, suitable optical anisotropy, large value of dielectric anisotropy, large specific resistance, high stability to UV rays, high stability to heat, or shows a suitable balance in at least two of these characteristics, and to provide an AM (active matrix) element having a short response time, a large voltage retention rate, a low threshold voltage, a high contrast ratio, a long service life, and the like.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition has a nematic phase and comprises a specific compound having a large value of dielectric anisotropy as a first component, and a specific compound having a small viscosity as a second component; and the composition may contain a specific compound having a high maximum temperature or a small viscosity as a third component, and a specific compound having a large value of dielectric anisotropy as a fourth component. A liquid crystal display element comprising the composition is also disclosed.</p> |
