A lithium composite metal oxide that contains Li, Ni, and Mn, has a layered structure, has a diffraction peak in a range of 2&thetas;=20.8±1° in a powder X-ray diffraction pattern obtained with powder X-ray diffraction measurement using a Cu—Kα radiation, has a BET specific surface area in a range of 6 m2/g to 30 m2/g, and has an average particle diameter measured with a laser diffraction scattering method in a range of 0.1 μm to 10 μm.
