The present invention relates to a fraction of a devil's claw extract in which only traces of iridoid glycosides and resins are present, a process for the preparation of said fraction, compositions comprising it, and the use of the fraction and of the compositions for the protection, or to cooperate with the protection, of skin or mucous membranes, or as carrier with mucoadhesive properties.
