<p>The substrate plate 1 is used in under floor heating systems and comprises a thermally insulating layer 2 made of an expanded polymer such as expanded polystyrene, a heat diffusing layer 2 made of a metal foil such as alumina foil and a protective layer 4 made of a polymeric material such as polyethylene. The heat diffusing layer is adhered to the thermally insulating layer. In use, the substrate plate is arranged alongside similar plates on a support surface 13 and heating pipes 5 of an under floor heating system are laid on the protective layer and fixed thereto by anchoring fasteners 7. Mortar 6, preferably a cementitious or anhydrite mixture, is poured on the plates, embedding the pipes and fixtures. The plate preferably includes guide indicia (12, figure 2) that mark where the pipes should be laid and an overlap portion 11 that extends over an adjacent plate in use to prevent wet mortar penetrating between adjacent plates during pouring. Ideally the fixtures include flanges (10, figure 3) to prevent wet mortar from penetrating past the protective layer. The protective layer can be sprayed onto the heat diffusing layer or provided as a sheet to be adhered.</p> |
