The gesture recognition device for a vehicle of the present invention comprises: a gesture detection unit generating video information by photographing a hand of a user; a direction setting unit setting a direction of recognition to recognize gestures by the hand; a gesture recognition unit generating virtual primary and auxiliary boundary lines in a perimeter area of the hand in accordance with image information and recognized direction, and recognizing the gestures by tracking a movement trajectory of the hand based on the primary and auxiliary boundary lines.
