<p>The present invention relates to a method for fail-safe operation of a motor driven power steering apparatus which restrains motor driven power steering (MDPS) operation by determining an operating state of a watchdog timer in MDPS. The method for fail-safe operation of a motor driven power steering apparatus according to the present invention comprises the steps of: determining a check state by reading previous failure information and watchdog abnormality information when a MDPS control unit is turned on; proceeding the fail-safe operation by restraining operation of the MDPS when both the previous failure information and the watchdog abnormality information are in the check state based on the determined results; normally operating the MDPS when either the previous failure information or the watchdog abnormality information is not in the check state based on the determined results; stopping refresh of the watchdog timer when the MDPS control unit is turned off in a normal operating state of the MDPS; and checking the previous failure information and forcibly terminating the MDPS when the set time has elapsed after stopping the refresh of the watchdog timer.</p> |
