PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus capable of improving an SN ratio of a reproduced signal.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus according to one embodiment includes: a recording medium; and a spin-torque oscillation element reproducing head. On the recording medium, a plurality of concentric tracks is formed. The spin-torque oscillation element reproducing head reproduces information from the recording medium, and includes a spin-torque oscillation element that includes an oscillation layer having a first cross-track-direction width; a polarizer layer having a second cross-track-direction width; and a spacer layer arranged between the oscillation layer and the polarizer layer. The first cross-track-direction width is larger than a twofold of the second cross-track-direction width, and the second cross-track-direction width is smaller than a distance between the two adjacent tracks. |
