<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ruler which allows for accurate straight line drawing on a target long surface and accurate length measurement of a target long surface, capable of being accommodated in a various storage space. <P>SOLUTION: A ruler 1 comprises a first ruler piece 2 and a second ruler piece 4. An end 21 of the first ruler piece 2 and another end 42 of the second ruler piece 4 are formed so as to be freely coupled together or separated from one another. The coupling between ruler pieces 2 and 4 allows the contact parts 23 and 43 of both the ruler pieces 2 and 4 to come in contact with an object plane 9 and line drawing guide parts 25 and 45, and 26 and 46 of both the ruler pieces 2 and 4 to be continuously coupled, respectively. The ruler pieces 2 and 4 in the coupled state cannot be relatively moved in both X1-X2 direction and Y1-Y2 direction in the drawing due to the shapes of the end 21 of the first ruler piece 2 and the other end 42 of the second ruler piece 4.
