PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery having a separator suitable for an electrode group of a laminated structure used in a square shape or a coin shape different from a cylindrical shape. SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery has the electrode group by laminating a positive electrode and a negative electrode by interposing the separator, and an alkaline electrolyte. The separator is mainly composed of nonwoven fabric selected from a fiber group of a polyolefine resin. The nonwoven fabric is composed of at least mixed fiber of a fiber group having an average fiber diameter of 6μm or more and a fiber group having an average fiber diameter less than 6μm, the total average fiber diameter is 7μm or less, a Metsuke unit quantity is 35 to 55 g/m2, permeability is 20 to 40 cm3/cm2/sec, pressurizing force when compressed up to the thickness of 100μm is 0.2 MPa or more, and a hydrophilic group is chemically bonded in the mixed fiber.
