PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent with which a liquid crystal alignment layer excellent in long term thermal reliability of a liquid crystal display element, that is, holding a high voltage holding ratio for a long period of time in a heating test of the element is formed, and further to provide the liquid crystal alignment layer formed by using the liquid crystal aligning agent, and the liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal alignment layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment layer is formed from the liquid crystal aligning agent, which includes a polyamic acid obtained by making a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride expressed by formula (G) and a diamine react with each other, or a derivative thereof, and is used for the liquid crystal display element.
