Encoding or decoding an image comprising a plurality of coding elements 1302, 1303 made of block of pixels. Each block is encoded or decoded according to one of a number of modes, one of which is INTRA Block Copy (IntraBC) mode. In INTRA Block Copy mode the block is encoded based on a predictor block, which is an actual block of the current image. A delay parameter is encoded in the bitstream which represents the number of coding elements from which a predictor block of the current block may be chosen and these coding elements 1303 are those immediately preceding the current block in the raster scan order. Preferably the coding element is a coding tree block (CTB) or largest coding unit (LCU). Other independent claims exist in which the INTRA Block Copy encoding/decoding either utilizes post-filtered blocks for the prediction, or restricts the predictor blocks to those that are not to be filtered. In the latter case, a flag may determine whether a coding element is available for IntraBC prediction. All inventions solve the problem that parallelizing the post-filtering operation demands a lot of memory as the IntraBC predictor blocks are conventionally raw reconstructed blocks before filtering is applied. |
