PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based coating for a metal packaging material, which not only has sufficient and necessary processability, metal adhesion and retort resistance but also has excellent slipperiness and abrasion resistance and forms a coating film not causing coating film defects, cut edge rough and wax deposition even if lid production processing is performed without outer wax coating. SOLUTION: The water-based coating for the metal packaging material is one comprising a water dispersion of an acrylic modified resin composition (A). The acrylic modified resin composition (A) is obtained by reacting an epoxy resin (B) with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (C) containing a carboxy group-containing monomer and wax (D).
