PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately generate a virtual viewpoint image, using a photographing image of high image quality.SOLUTION: In an image generation device 2, an image generation part 23 projects data on a part of an entire area image of a camera 5 on a virtual projection surface. and generates a virtual viewpoint image when viewed from a virtual viewpoint, using the data on the projection surface. Further, out of the entire area image, an area instruction part 20b designates an object area required for generating the virtual viewpoint image in accordance with the virtual viewpoint. An image acquisition part 21 receives a transmission image corresponding to the object area out of the entire area image from the camera 5 via a transmitting path 92, and an image memory 22 stores the transmission image in a storage area. Then, a table selection part 20c selects a corresponding table 28c indicative of a corresponding relation between a position of a storage area 22a and a position on a projection surface TS in accordance with the virtual viewpoint, and the image generation part 23 projects data on the transmission image stored in the storage area 22a on the projection surface, using the selected corresponding table 28c. |
