A single crystal diamond (10) has a surface (10a). In the single crystal diamond (10), when a measurement region (20), which includes a part wherein the transmittance of the single crystal diamond (10) is at a maximum and a part where that transmittance is at a minimum and in which a plurality of square regions (20a), wherein the length of one side is 0.2 mm, are continuous, is prescribed on the surface (20a) and the average value of the transmittance in each of the plurality of square regions (20a) is measured, the relationship ((T1 - T2)/((T1 + T2)/2) × 100)/0.2≤20 (%/mm) is satisfied over the entirety of the measurement region (20), where T1 is the average value for the transmittance in one square region (20a) and T2 is that for another square region (20a) adjacent to the one square region (20a).
